In March 2011, Access Humboldt produced short (5 minute) segments featuring interviews with local media leaders, government figures, political science and communications educators, and other open government advocates. The purpose of these Sunshine Week messages is to inform the Humboldt County community about the importance of civic participation and to encourage individuals to practice their civic rights in a fair and open democracy. The messages are unique to each individual and bring different points of view and examples of how and when freedom of information is obtained.
All segments will air and rerun everyday throughout the programming schedule on channels 11 and 12 during Sunshine Week, March 13-19, and will also be available for online viewers at accesshumboldt.net. Stay tune for specific air times.
Some of our interviewed guests include Carolyn Crnich, County Clerk, Recorder and Registrar of Voters; Kevin Hoover, Editor and Publisher of the Arcata Eye; Jack Durham, Editor and Publisher of McKinleyville Press; Roy Frostenson, General Manager of KIEM News Channel 3; Marcy Burstiner, Assistant Professor of Journalism & Mass Communication at HSU; Tom Abate, Editor of The North Coast Journal; Thadeus Greenson, Staff Writer for The Times-Standard; and Hank Sims, of Lost Coast Communications.
