California's Public Utilities Commission has funded Regional Broadband Consortia across the State - including the Redwood Coast Region Broadband Consortium that serves Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity and Mendocino Counties http://www.cpuc.ca.gov/PUC/Telco/CASF+Consortia/redwoodcoast.htm. Humboldt State University's California Center for Rural Policy is the principal agency for the Redwood Coast Region and Access Humboldt serves as the lead agency for Humboldt County through the Digital Redwoods initiative.

Two other Consortia are led by CENIC (Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California) and the Center for Economic Development at CSU-Chico. The Northeastern California Connect Consortium http://necalbroadband.org/ (including Butte, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama Counties) and the Upstate California Connect Consortium http://upcalbroadband.org/ (including Colusa, Glenn, Lake and Sonoma Counties) have authored a broadband infrastructure design implementation plan titled: "Concept Design Plan for Northern California Regional Middle-Mile Infrastructure (NCRMMI)."

Principles in this effort, being organized as "Golden Bear Broadband, LLC," will be presenting their proposal at a meeting of the Digital Redwoods Work Group at Eureka High School on Tuesday September 4, 2012 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

The open public meeting is hosted by Access Humboldt at their Community Media Center, enter from Del Norte Street near L Street in Eureka, California.
